It’s a sobering thing to realize that I wouldn’t be here today if someone hadn’t given me the gift of life. Six years ago today, my life was saved by a kidney transplant. Since then, I have been blessed to be on American Idol, release a full-length album, write a book, travel the world, and marry the love of my life. It amazes me to think that the selfless decision my donor made in giving me that gift set into motion a chain of events and experiences that have made such a profound impact on who I am today, and I now know what it means to truly say, “thank you is not enough.”
